VIVA LA VINTAGE

Image
I AM ABSOLUTELY OBSESSED WITH VINTAGE CLOTHING!! I LOVE THE QUALITY, FABRIC, FEMININE CUTS AND BEAUTIFUL DESIGNS. EVERY TIME I PUT ON A VINTAGE PIECE I FEEL AS IF I'M IN THAT ERA! THE WOMEN BACK THEN WERE SO CLASSY AND BEAUTIFUL. I PICTURE THEM BAKING COOKIES WITH A FULL FACE OF MAKEUP IN A PLEATED DRESS WITH A BELT, HEELS AND FABULOUS PEARLS! HAHA BTW - DID YOU KNOW THAT "VINTAGE CLOTHING" REFERS TO ANY CLOTHING THAT WAS PRODUCED FROM THE 1920s TO 1980s. ANYTHING PRIOR TO THE 1920s IS CONSIDERED ANTIQUE. I HAVE REALLY BEEN IN THE MOOD TO DRESS UP LATELY! I FEEL SO INSPIRED THIS WEEK...TAKING PICTURES AND POSTING LIKE CRAZY! DON'T WORRY! THIS WON'T LAST LONG! I HAVE MY MOMENTS! HAHA TONIGHT I JUST FELT LIKE DRESSING UP SO I PUT ON THIS VINTAGE DRESS AND MY DAUGHTER AND I WENT INTO THE HALLWAY OF MY BLDG. I AM ALWAYS STANDING IN MY PICTURES SO I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE FUN TO TAKE THE MAJORITY OF THESE SITTING. THE LIGHTING IS NOT THE BEST SO I APOLOGIZE FOR THE QUALI

I GOT SUSPENDED!!

Image
I LOVE SUSPENDERS!! THEY REMIND ME SO MUCH OF THE 80'S AND 90'S (which I love) AND THEY CAN BE WORN UP OR LEFT HANGING DOWN.  HAVE YOU EVER BEEN SUSPENDED?  HIGH WAISTED WIDE LEG JEANS - LANE BRYANT WHITE TANK - LANE BRYANT SUSPENDERS - THRIFTED SHOES - JEFFREY CAMPBELL WEDGES HAT - VINTAGE MEN'S LONDON FOG NECKLACE - F21 PHOTOS BY KAYLA (my 9 year old daughter)

One of my FAVORITE bloggers  CHUNKY FUNKY MONKEYZ  gave me this award! THANK YOU MOYA!! muah There are rules to these awards but I don't like no stinkin rules so I give this award to ALL of my readers because ALL of your blog's ROCK!  I love to read Moya's blog!  She is so REAL and I love that about people!!! Moya usually starts each post with a little something about what she is going through or feeling at the time of the post. I love her open honesty. It is so refreshing in this world of fake-ness! She then will give you a few of her lusts (clothing, shoes, accessories and even beautiful people)! lol  I must warn you that this girl will drop the "F" bomb in a minute! haha  Normally I would be offended by this but you can't help but love her!! Be sure to check out her blog! Its like having your own on-line magazine! ;-)  Yesterday when I was reading Moya's latest post I saw this on her lust list and fell completely in love!!

TEAL AND YELLOW

Image
I had an awesome Sunday! My neighbor and friend preached his 1st sermon today so we all went to his church to support him. The purpose of the message was knowing that to be free in Christ means serving one another. What a great message and also very convicting. It is so easy to get caught up in "self" and forget or not care about the needs of others. It is my prayer that I am mindful of this message in times when I desire to do only what is pleasing to me. It was also very encouraging to know that the school that he and my hubby attend is doing a great job in equipping their students to do the work of the Lord! Part of their curriculum includes preaching classes. On another note, this is what I wore to church today. This skirt began as a formal dress. The top portion had this ugly sequined design so I cut it off and turned the bottom portion into a maxi skirt. The dress was only $5.99 at a local antique store. I paired it with a blazer in the same color, a yellow silk blouse

AFRICAN QUEEN

Image
When I saw this dress, robe, cover up, moo moo or whatever you choose to call it, it was LOVE AT 1ST SIGHT!! I paid $5 for it at a local thrift store!! For those of you that don't know, I inherited the best of both worlds as far as ethnicity goes. I am 1/2 Native American (Father) and 1/2 African American (Mother). I was raised on a reservation but my mother made sure that I was VERY much in touch with my black roots. Actually, the two cultures are very very similar. They both belong to tribes, make beautiful things by hand, have some sort of ceremony or ritual for every life event, dance, worship mother nature, live off the land, take care of family and LOVE to eat!! I truly am blessed beyond measure to have such a life!  At my last pedi I had them use the O.P.I. silver polish with black crackle. I love it!  Oh and by the way....I died my hair! It is very subtle which I wanted. Do you like it?   THIS THING IS FABULOUS HONEY! lol Picture it belted!! SMILE! GOD LOVES YOU! Kiah

BIG RED RIDING HOOD

Image
Every time I wear red I think of Little Red Riding Hood. It is obvious that there is nothing "little" about me so I donned myself Big Red Riding Hood. lol I found this dress at my favorite thrift store. It is a bit big in the upper half but I love the cut. I am accumulating quite the pile for alterations. This fabulous belt was found at a vintage store in Deep Ellum. I went for a sort of monochromatic look by adding my red Jeffrey Campbell Two Timer wedges (sorry I didn't get any pictures of the back or sides of the shoes for you to see the wedge).  Hope everyone had a great weekend! I received two new pairs of pants from ASOS curve that I can't wait to show y'all! Kiah I got these cool earrings from my grandma's stash the last time I visited. They are a blend of blue and purple. My daughter aka my photographer is in Arizona right now and I am missing her so much it hurts. If you are looking at mommy's blog today I LOVE YOU and can't wait for yo

IN THE NEWS AND AN OOTD

Image
Sitting here with dye in my hair listening to Adele and decided to kill some time by surfing the "NET". I log on and BAM!! Headliner - My beautiful girl J-Lo and my favorite BORICUA singer Marc Anthony broke up!! 1st the Fat Boys break up and now this!! lol I had high hopes for my girl's 3rd time around! What is going on with these Hollywood couples. Do they fall in love with every male that they are in a movie with!! smh Since I am talking about the news what do y'all think about Casey Anthony getting off? I also cried my eyes out reading about the slain 8 year old Jewish boy in New York. This world is sick I tell ya!! While you meditate on those things above this is what I wore to work yesterday. I have always associated houndstooth with a classy lady. I don't know why but it reminds me of Jackie O.!! lol I am starting to get upset because this dye does not seem to be working. This is what happens when you are a cheap-skate!! lol Kiah

THE FRUITY NERD

Image
I found this great vintage fruit skirt at my favorite thrift store. I LOVE IT! The pics aren't doing it any justice because it is so colorful! I wore this to work so I decided to pair it with a simple white Ralph Lauren shirt and my comfy TOM wedges. Had I worn this outside of work I would have opted for a bold colored shirt and some plain black pumps or an all black silk blouse with bold colored shoes. I just wanted to show you the skirt. Be on the look out for another post jazzing it up a bit! As you continue to follow me you will see that I have many different looks. I bet y'all didn't know that I was as blind as a bat!! lol I wear my glasses when I am at home or running quick errands but most of the time I wear contacts. My eyes were dry and puffy today so I wore my glasses. I guess that means today you get to see my "nerd" look! Fruity and nerdy...what a combo! haha I purchased this rams heads bracelet at a different thrift store. It was stamped on the inside

A NATIVE IN NAVY

Image
On my way home from work I always pass this beautiful waterfall near the Dallas Convention Center. Today on the way home I asked my hubby to stop and snap a few pics of my outfit. I feel so connected to water and trees...just nature in general. I guess it must be the Native American in me. The 1st pic really reminds me of a spot I know up river on the "REZ". Now here I am in the city. Looking for me? I'm the Native in navy! lol  I am wearing a thrifted pleated skirt (I love the little flowers on it), Ralph Lauren polo, Target belt and Michael Kors handbag, watch and shoes.
